There’s something about the water that connects our family. For each of us, that ‘something’ is different, but equally as special. I grew up by the sea. While I was busy building sandcastles and hurling fists full of sopping wet sand at my brother, the salt and the sand of my youth seeped into my roots. Sometimes my soul still craves the bitter ocean water and the sound of the waves crashing. If I close my eyes tight enough, I can feel my feet sinking further and further down into the hot sand at the edge of my towel while the sun coats my skin in the warmest blanket and freckles my pale skin. My husband loves the water as well, opting for a kayak and a fishing pole after a long and grueling week of work (when his loving wife isn’t calling him back onto shore). Our kids have adopted our love for the water, and it seems that our adventures either begin or end with it. We moved away from the ocean in North Carolina, but we are surrounded by thousands of lakes in Michigan.
So every couple of weeks, we find ourselves back to visit a body of water and marvel at mother nature and God’s wonders. One of our favorite spots is Nine Mile Pier in Saint Clair Shores, MI. You technically have to be a St. Clair Shores resident to have access to Nine Mile Pier – but we never get questioned about it. Maybe it’s because we have a wagon full of snacks, fishing gear, and an antsy toddler to handle that the old man in the booth never flags us down demanding to see our I.D.
*I received this diaper bag from Fawn & Design in exchange for my honest review – all opinions are my own, as always.
I just received a new diaper bag in the mail from Fawn Design, and love it! It fits in perfectly in our everyday lives, and is great all of our special trips out together like this one. Mine is in the color Gray. I debated getting the Blush color, but really fell in love with the neutral colors Fawn Design had to offer. I chose Fawn Design for my diaper bag because they combine everyday function and style with their faux leather bags that are easy to wipe down. My previous bag needed to be scrubbed clean, and I wasn’t happy about the time it took to keep it looking clean.
I packed some snacks, my good camera, and the rest of our necessities so we could have a fun and easy trip out! The pockets, both inside and out, were great for storing everything we needed without having to dig around.
The backpack straps are my favorite feature. I can comfortably wear my bag while holding Jax on my hip so he doesn’t try to run on the rocks at the water’s edge. And believe me when I say he certainly tried the entire time we were there. Fawn Design bags also have a shoulder strap so you can wear your bag either cross-body fashion or on your shoulder, but I opted to wear mine on my back to keep things simple.
The boys love going out on trips like this – we usually go after we pick Max up from school and grab something to eat before hitting up the Pier. The water reflects the sky so beautifully with no clouds in sight, and the rocks make for an edgy but fun place to set up camp for a few hours.
At the end of the Pier, along the edge, is a rusty old border wall. Perhaps they ran out of rocks, or they felt a wall would be safer? I’m not sure, but I was able to get this cool shot through one of the many holes that are spread out every foot or so along the wall. The wind was blowing just a tad, and the movement of the water was beautiful to see.
My little daredevil couldn’t get enough adventure by just peeking through the holes along the wall, he needed to sit on the edge while my husband carefully cradled him as he peered over the side.
We were super thankful to be able to stretch our legs with a nice family walk and sit on the rocks by the water. It’s so nice to see the boys casting lines together while Jax flings his socks off and anxiously walks in the water up to his knees with one of my husband’s firm hands keeping him from going in any further. He even showed interest in turning daddy’s fishing reel as he perched himself on Chris’ knee.
We had a wonderful time, and were able to pack everything we needed for our fun trip out with my new bag from Fawn Design. If you are looking for a stylish, chic, and organized bag, I highly recommend Fawn Design!
