My husband Christopher and I have two incredible pups, Mack and Cooper. Mack is our Southern English Bulldog, and Cooper is our Puggle. A puggle is a pug and beagle mix! When I met Chris as a single mother with my oldest son, Max, he had only recently adopted Mack. We decided after some time to introduce everyone, and the names quickly became confusing. Mack sounds a lot like Max when the ‘x’ isn’t accentuated enough. Mack and Max became fast friends, and have been inseparable ever since. When we found it was time to get Mack a new playmate, we opted for a name that didn’t sound close to either of their names and even refused to name our new puppy anything with the letter ‘M‘. We settled on Cooper, and Max had a new buddy again. Three years later, we added a sweet baby boy to the Burghardt family, Jax. So we are one big happy family of six!
Our dogs are a huge part of our family, and our children love to run and play outside with them every chance they get. We are still teaching our youngest, Jaxson, to play nicely with the dogs, although in true #twonager fashion, he loves pulling on Cooper’s curly tail and floppy ears.
This year my husband and I decided to start paying attention to what we’re feeding our pups – quality being a concern, but with our budget in mind.
One of our favorite spots to shop and score some awesome deals on dog food is Meijer! With mPerks, we get our much-needed grocery and pet items for great prices and save a ton. We easily found the dog food aisle next to the fish tanks (where Chris and the boys always stop to see the fishies). For Mack, our Southern English Bulldog, we opted for Purina® Dog Chow Complete Adult With Real Chicken. Meijer had a bonus size 20 lb. bag of the Complete Adult Dog Chow that we snagged for a great price.
Cooper is our Puggle, and a wonderful playmate for our kids. He always has so much energy, and we can always count on lots of kisses and tail wagging when we come in the door! Not much research has been done on Puggles because they are a newer breed, but I’ve learned from all of my friends who also own Puggles that they can be quite gluttonous! Any little scrap or extra piece of food they can get their paws on will be devoured in an instant. We found Purina® Beneful® Healthy Weight With Real Chicken, and thought it would be perfect for our 4-year-old furry friend. Meijer had some great deals on our 31.1 lb. bag size.
You wouldn’t know it by looking at this innocent face of our youngest pup (who is, for some strange reason, scared of the sound of my camera clicking!), but this little guy is a mischievous pup. He can open our in-cabinet trash can, climb up onto the kitchen table, and hide in Max’s closet or bed when I’m trying to let him out to go potty. He is full of energy, and too clever for his own good, but still a lovable and great addition to our family.
Because he can get into the trash can, we’ve installed some baby-proofing locks for him, and since purchasing the Purina Beneful Healthy Weight With Real Chicken, have seen a steady decrease in belly size. He certainly looks healthier, and is running around more with the kids. I think he isn’t weighed down anymore, and hasn’t been searching for scraps as if he’s been missing something in his diet.
For Mack, we feel we made the right choice with his food. We love that his Purina® Dog Chow Complete Adult With Real Chicken is made with American-raised real chicken, contains 23 vitamins and minerals, is highly digestible (super important for bulldogs and their sensitive stomachs!), supports immune health, and is 100% complete and balanced for adult dogs! With Mack being 11-years-young, I appreciate the immune support of this dog food the most!
To save on your own bag of Beneful or Dog Chow, Meijer has a great mPerk offer for pet owners this month to save $1 off 32 lb. or smaller bag of Dog Chow, or $1 off any size bag of Beneful!
